MISA encourages new newspaper to print media Ombudsman details, publisher’s details in newspaper

MISA-Swaziland Alert
Monday 21 October, 2013

Swaziland’s Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA-Swaziland) encourages the country’s new Sunday newspaper, Sunday Observer, to publish the contact details for the media Ombudsman on page one of the newspaper. While the newspaper does publish details of its internal complaints contact details, MISA-Swaziland believes the public deserve the contact details of the independent Ombudsman as well. Just as the other newspapers, including papers in the Swazi Observer Group of Newspaper stable and its rival Times of Swaziland, publish the following:

If you have a complaint about the Swazi media or want to correct something, email ombudsman@realnet.co.sz or call +268 2404 9700

MISA-Swaziland also encourages the new newspaper, in line with well-established media ethics and in the interests of transparency, to publish the names of directors of the publishing company and the name of the company. Something similar to how the South African weekly Mail & Guardian publishes this under its editorial comment:

Transparency: weekly newspaper Mail & Guardian lists its directors at the bottom of its editorial
